Heritage Prepared Lime Putty Mortar with Cement Pouch (Type O)
Suitable for historic masonry structures constructed between 1871-1931
This restoration mortar consists of straight lime putty with an enclosed portland cement pouch that is added onsite. This specialty mortar is breathable and flexible, and it protects friable masonry units from moisture and freeze-thaw damage. (For more information on selecting an appropriate mortar for repointing historic masonry buildings, please read the National Park Service Preservation Brief #2 Repointing Mortar Joints in Historic Buildings.)

Masonry constructed between 1872-1931 is characterized by a wide range of mortar formulations that were determined by the availability of portland cement as well as the original mason's or architect's decisions. This mortar formulation is a Type O, which is stronger than our Heritage Preblended Pure Lime Putty Mortar, but it is more flexible and more breathable than modern cement-based formulations, and it is often suitable for structures constructed during this time frame.

This mortar is packaged as a wet blend with sand. Cured color is white. Also available by special request in 42 colors. We tint our special request mortars with natural mineral pigments.
