In-House Training

US Heritage Group provides in-house training for masons and contractors, as well as qualifying architects, engineers and preservation organization staff. The training includes a classroom lecture to cover the Why, Where, and How To of historic masonry repair, and hands on mock-up installation and technique demonstrations in our workshop.

• Lime Putty Mortar Installer Certification Training (One Day)

Learn the tricks to “Walk-Away Installation” that can give you a competitive advantage by producing superior results. Eliminate unnecessary, inappropriate and potentially damaging work caused by problems with mortar mixes, joint removal, installation, tooling, curing and cleaning.

What you will learn from the course:

  • History of lime and portland cement use in masonry
  • Technical information about building limes performance & life expectancy
  • Mortar recipe basics
  • Color matching considerations lime putty mortar mixing
  • Non-destructive mortar removal methods including appropriate tool selection
  • Proper wall preparation

• Stone Repair Certification Training – Level 1 (One Day)

Level 1 of the Stone Repair Certification Training delivers straightforward strategies and techniques for basic masonry unit repair from start to finish using stone to stone bonding adhesive and stone patching mortars.

What you will learn from the course:

  • Deteriorated stone removal
  • Cleaning and neutralizing efflorescence
  • Bonding broken stones
  • Casting stone from molds
  • Stone patch dressing basics

• Stone Repair Certification Training – Level 2 (One Day)

Level 2 of the Stone Repair Certification Training workshop will teach you how to execute masonry repairs on challenging surfaces with stunning visual accuracy. Work hands-on with master stone conservators to build skills that can be applied to repair architectural and decorative concrete, cast stone and granite.

What you will learn from the course:

  • Advanced surface Preparation
  • Movement crack stabilization in-situ by crack injection
  • Non movement crack void filling by dispersed lime injection mortar
  • Surface patching of coarse grain substrates
  • Surface restoration of concrete paste using dispersed lime spachtel
  • Surface color adjustment using mineral stain

The training is led by Mario Machnicki, founder and president of US Heritage Group and Marion Restoration. Mario has earned his engineering degree from the College of Technology in Radom, Poland. His experience includes over 30 years of consulting, training and material supply to more than one thousand masonry restoration/preservation projects on heritage sites across North America. Mario Machnicki actively participates as a member of professional organizations including The National Trust for Historic Preservation, ASTM (various committees), International Building Limes Forum, International Council on Monuments and Sites.

Cancelation policy:

We recognize registrants may find it necessary to cancel their reservations. At any time prior to the workshop the participant may reschedule to another workshop at no additional cost, provided that the requested workshop is available. All cancellations will be subject to a $125.00 cancellation fee per participant if written notice is received at least 14 working days before the workshop date. Cancellations must be in writing. All other cancellations are non-refundable.
